Adrift

Drifting apart

The gulf grows wider and

Streams between the two of us

You seem to be

Unknown to me

Utterly lost

Mighty oak, to matchwood

Catches on to flame and frost

Undermined

Stripped bare

Blown away

Cut back to timber at a cost

Unknown to me

Sulphurous brimstone butterfly,

A fairy-soldier marching past,

And on…

Those features cast

In iron mask

Set like stone, set up and down

Due out of town

Strapped to the mast

Adrift, and all alone at last.
