Parting

Your scent drifts up
As I uncross my legs, and think
This morning you were so close
You were within me
And now without you
And deprived now of your words
There is a hole in this house,
Sucking darkness in, and spitting out
The phlegm of isolation
And your stale seed
This skin
Alive and prickling
With its memory of you on this sheet
Lying empty and defeated,
Yet ready to receive
Like some fresh grave
A man-trap to be avoided
And I,
The tethered bait weeping
Seeping your sex upon the sheet
(In parting there is nothing sweet)
